Conan Doyle, Arthur (1859 - 1930)
A 4 X 7 book containing fifteen pages of handwritten notes by Arthur Conan Doyle. Titled "Baby's Book" by the author on the first blank page, the notes go into considerable detail about the physical and intellectual development of Conan Doyle's children, as seen through their father's eyes. Some factual detail includes, in relation to Conan Doyle's son Denis, "Baby was born March 17th, about 6pm. St. Patrick's Day, 1909. He was christened Denis Stewart Percy Conan Doyle April 17th. He was below the average size and weight when born, but was very well formed and intelligent." A later entry relating to Denis on his first birthday reads, "He says Dad! Dad and Mam! Mam! But I do not think they mean anything. His favourite noise is a sort of interrogative ah?" References to his son Adrian include, in 1913, "shows every sign of being a great comedian. Very subtle in his humour." and other later anecdotes relating to him as an older child include, "Adrian pretended all day to be a 30 foot rock python. On being asked how he would fit into the bed, he said, 'Oh I'll just coil up'" and "Adrian asked if God was listening to his conversation. On being told that he was he said 'well it's very rude of him'". A wonderful book with pages and pages of interesting details and stories. A wonderful document relating to Conan Doyle the proud and attentive father. In very fine condition. From the Conan Doyle Estate.
