Hirohito, Emperor (1901 - 1989)
An astonishing signed 8" X 11" photograph by Emperor Hirohito and his wife, Empress Nagako. A three-quarter length portrait of the couple in their later years in a formal, dignified pose. Each has signed the portrait in Japanese characters in bold black ink, Hirohito to the left of his image, and Nagako to the right of hers. The photo is in fine condition and is magnificently displayed in its original silver presentation frame which has a gilt chrysanthemum in the top border. The framed photo is then contained in a specially-made presentation box of dark blue velvet, which is lined with silk and velvet. The two small clasps on the box are partly missing, but the box and the frame are otherwise in fine condition. Signed photographs of Hirohito are very rare, and this one is most strikingly presented.
