Coltrane Quintet, The John
A 'Jazz at the Philharmonic' programme from the November 1961 British Tour, boldly signed by John Coltrane and his entire quintet to the centre pages. Bold ballpoint signatures of John Coltrane (1926 - 1967), McCoy Tyner (1938 - ), Elvin Jones (1927 - 2004), Reggie Workman (1937 - ) and Eric Dolphy (1928 - 1964). Additionally signed by Leo Wright. The facing page has been signed by the entire Dizzy Gillespie Quintet: Dizzy Gillespie, Bob Cunningham, Mel Lewis, Lalo Schisrin and Leo Wright. Age-toning, otherwise in fine condition. An extremely rare combination of signatures, including only the third Eric Dolphy signature we have ever encountered. The signatures date from a key moment in Coltrane's career, just days after the groups celebrated and much recorded residency at the Village Vanguard, which featured the most experimental music that Coltrane had played up until this point. An exceptional piece.
